PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates confirmed Saturday that they have signed outfielder Matt Joyce to a minor-league contract with an invitation to Major League camp.
CBSSports.com initially reported the news Thursday, and the Pirates confirmed Saturday morning via Twitter.
The 31-year-old previously played with the Detroit Tigers, the Tampa Bay Rays and the Los Angeles Angels.
Last week, the Pirates announced that they signed former San Diego Padres pitcher Cory Luebke to a minor-league contract.

Spring training in Bradenton, Fla., is underway. Pitchers and catchers had their first workout Friday, and the full squad is scheduled for their first full workout Tuesday.
Joyce joined the team in Bradenton Saturday morning. KDKA's Rich Walsh reported from Florida that the Pirates are hopeful Joyce will be the team's 4th outfielder, and Joyce said he would be working on playing first base, too.
