Police Investigating Deadly Shooting In Homestead

HOMESTEAD (KDKA)- Homicide detectives are looking into a deadly shooting in Homestead.

Police were called to the 1200 block of Sarah Street around 2 a.m. on Tuesday. It was right near McClean Playground.

When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot in the head and neck. The man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has been identified as 20-year-old Tyrell Jones.

Homestead Police Chief Jeff DeSimone said jones is known to his officers, as are his friends. He said a bag of drugs that hadn't been touched looked like it had been dropped close to where the murder happened.

"There was small bag of marijuana close to the body. Can I say for certain that it was his? No, I can't but it was just in pristine condition," Chief DeSimone said.

Officers blocked off the area with crime scene tape and forensics crews were called to the scene.

Travis Fields lives close to where Jones was shot to death.

"Me and my girlfriend were asleep and my friend came banging on the door and they're like, there's a body a corner up there.  My friend was crying like she saw them put the body in the body bag she said it was a kid," Fields said.

Police are currently interviewing witnesses and trying to find the shooter in the case.
