"Big" Ben No More? Roethlisberger Drops 15 Pounds In Offseason

Tom Bogert, CBS Local Sports

Big Ben has worked hard to be Still-Big-But-A-Slightly-Slimmer Ben for the upcoming NFL season. Granted, the latter nickname doesn't have quite the aesthetic pleasure that the former does.

Ben Roethlisberger has reportedly dropped 15 pounds this offseason in an effort to be a bit more elusive in the pocket for the Pittsburgh Steelers next season as the 34-year-old quarterback hopes to avoid the injuries that plagued his 2015 campaign.

Roethlisberger's weight loss is no coincidence, of course. His agent Ryan Tollner confirmed as much to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

"He couldn't really work out because he kept getting hurt," said Tollner. "I think he said after the season, you know what, I'm going to lose weight to alleviate potential pain in my joints."

The quarterback is pictured here with Steelers' Head Coach Mike Tomlin at the University of Pittsburgh football spring practice, looking a bit slimmer.

Big Ben's weight loss comes in conjunction with the team's trainers, they're looking to shed some excess pounds to help reignite more agility for a player who already moves uncharacteristically gracefully and quickly for someone who stands at 6'5" and weighs in the region of 240 lbs.

As a fan of repetitive disappointment and frustration, Tom holds Liverpool FC, the New York Knicks and New York Red Bulls near and dear to his heart with occasional joy coming from the New York Giants and New York Yankees.
