Caught On Camera: Thief Cuts Power Cord, Takes Entire Cash Register With Him

SLICKVILLE, Pa. (KDKA) -- A burglar in Westmoreland County apparently needed some outside help when he broke into a bar in Slickville recently.

Slickville has a population of less than 400 people.

The suspect forced his way into the Silver Star Bar last month, but State Police are just now releasing surveillance video showing the thief trying to get into the bar's cash register drawer.

He made several attempts, and when they all failed, the video shows him calling someone on his cell phone. Police theorize he was trying to get some direction or advice on what to do next.

In the video, the burglar then proceeds to get a pair of scissors from the counter, and then he cut the electric cord to the register, which results in him getting a small shock.

The surveillance video shows the flash of light and sparks from the electric shock, and the burglar jumps a little.

State Trooper Stephen Limani said, "He was fortunate he didn't suffer more injuries than just the jolt he got when he was cutting the cord to the register."

"The people that live in town don't do this kind of stuff. This has to be somebody from out of town someplace," said Theodora Zimmerman, the owner of the bar. "This is a small town. We usually don't have any problems, it's all local customers, and they don't even swear in here."

Trooper Limani said if it turns out the person on the other end of the phone the burglar was talking to was either in on the burglary or if that person knew a crime was being committed, then he or she could also face criminal charges.
