Mother Renews Call For Justice On Anniversary Of Her Son's Shooting Death

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) -- The mother of a young man who was gunned down four years ago in a park in Wilkinsburg is renewing her call for justice

There were many witnesses to the 2012 shooting, but so far, no has come forward.

To mark the anniversary of his death, the victim's family and friends gathered Thursday night for a vigil to remember him.

"I struggle every day. Even though it's four years, I'm still stuck," says Tonya Moone, the victim's mother. "Everybody goes on with their life, but I'm still stuck. This is my baby."

Tonya will carry the pain forever. Her 17-year-old son, Rashad, was gunned down in Hunter Park four years ago. Officials say the suspects were trying to rob him of his cell phone, but he didn't have it on him. So they shot him.

For his mother, Rashad isn't just another statistic.

"Don't look at it like this is just another black kid. This is a black on black crime. No, this was a life," says Tonya. "He brought love. All these people that are here, they're here 'cause they loved him."

They were many witnesses to the shooting.

Rashad's mom says they know who did it, but no one is willing to identify the killers. She says she wants to remind everyone that they're criminals who need to be off the streets.

"Once they kill, it becomes easier to kill again. It becomes very easy," she says.

Rashad was about to graduate from high school with honors when he was gunned down. He was the father of a newborn girl. Little Houston is now 4 and she wonders where her father is.

"He loved this little girl so much, and she looked exactly like him. It just breaks my heart that he can't be here with his daughter," Tonya said.

There's a $5,000 reward for information that will lead to the killers.

Tonya has also started to GoFundMe campaign to make the reward even bigger. But in four years, no one has said a word about who killed Rashad.
