Bees Swarm South Fayette Man's Front Yard

SOUTH FAYETTE (KDKA) -- Bees invaded a South Fayette man's front yard this week.

John Mowod says he saw what looked like a large dark cloud moving across his front lawn. Once he got a closer look, he realized it was thousands of bees moving in a swarm.

"You could see the swarm from the driveway, about 40, 50 feet away, and there's just bees everywhere," he said. "But, as you can see right now, they've kind of calmed down, and there's no hive in there, but it's condensed, all bees, to about the size of a basketball."

A local expert says bees swarm to protect the queen bee when she leaves the colony.

Mowod says he'll call a beekeeper to remove the bees if they don't leave on their own.
