Feds, Police Raid Pittsburgh Area Electronics Stores

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Federal agents and local law enforcement fanned out across the Pittsburgh area Wednesday, raiding stores that deal in electronics.

Agents from the FBI and the IRS, along with Postal Police, raided 9 electronics stores in the Pittsburgh area as part of an ongoing Federal investigation.

A spokeswoman for David Hickton, the U.S. Attorney for Western Pennsylvania, says law enforcement agents were armed with search warrants as they conducted the raids at stores in Pittsburgh, Dormont, Edgewood, Bellevue, Shaler and Ross Township. The warrants were sealed, and no arrests were made.

It appears investigators want to know if the stores, which are essentially pawn shops, are selling stolen merchandise, like laptops, cellphones and electronic games. Agents were seen removing box-loads of items from the stores.

The Feds are also interested in learning if store employees are obtaining the proper ID and information from customers who come in with merchandise.
