19-Year-Old Accused Of Assaulting State Trooper In Mercer Co.

MERCER COUNTY (KDKA) -- A 19-year-old man is accused of assaulting a state trooper in Mercer County early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. at a residence located on Latonka Drive in Coolspring Township.

State police say they received a call from someone saying several individuals were "hanging" out of a dark-colored Jeep Wrangler that was driving around Lake Latonka and Latonka Drive. The witness said he heard what sounded like mailboxes being smashed. It was later discovered that the vehicle had been running over garbage cans.

Troopers were sent to the scene and attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver, later identified as 19-year-old Timothy Christopher Dunham, kept going and eventually stopped at 630 Latonka Drive.

According to state police, Dunham got out of the Jeep and "abruptly" walked toward the troopers, ignoring their commands to stop. State police say there was a brief struggle between Dunham and a trooper, who both fell to the ground. The trooper suffered an apparent leg injury.

Another trooper placed Dunham in custody. Dunham is being lodged in the Mercer County Jail. Bail was set at $25,000.
