Rollover Crash Blocks Traffic In Oakland

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- People couldn't believe their eyes when they saw a Hyundai Elantra on its roof in the middle of the street in Oakland Thursday morning.

It happened on Forbes Avenue.

"I heard people screaming 'is there a baby in the car' because there was a car seat. And I had the choice of going around or stopping and of course I stopped," said witness Beth Fagan.

Police converged on the scene quickly and figured out there was not a child in the car. Traffic was rerouted, but the driver of the car was still trapped inside, upside down.

"They got the doors open and there was just this sweet girl and she was literally hanging upside down, her car seat is what saved her seat belt, but with the seat belt she was stuck," Fagan said.

How does a car end up on its roof in the middle of traffic? Eyewitnesses old KDKA the driver was just getting off work from her job at UPMC Mercy.

"I did talk to her. Her mom was on the phone and I talked to her and asked her how she was," Fagan said.

The victim didn't want to be interviewed, but she said she was okay. The driver of a truck said he felt a bang, and realized the car flipping over had just hit him. He was parked and wasn't hurt.
