Police: 'Frustrated' Father Critically Injured 3-Month-Old Son

EAST LACKAWANNOCK TWP. (KDKA) -- A Mercer County father is accused of assaulting his infant son.

In August, police were contacted by UPMC Children's Hospital. They were treating a 3-month-old who was in critical condition in the pediatric intensive care unit.

The child was taken to Children's from Grove City Medical Center on Aug. 23. A report from the hospital indicated the child had multiple severe brain injuries that were suspected to be caused by abusive head trauma.

According to a police report, James Neil Beck, 27, the child's father, was identified as the person who caused head trauma to the infant on multiple occasions.

A witness told police the most recent injuries were caused during early morning hours when the man became frustrated because the baby was crying, causing him to lose sleep.

Beck has been charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, simple assault, reckless endangerment. He remains in the Mercer County Jail on $250,000 bond.
