1 Man Injured, 1 Arrested In Wilmerding Shooting

WILMERDING (KDKA) - Allegheny County Police are investigating after one person was shot in Wilmerding late Thursday night.

According to police, the shooting happened near the intersection of Commerce Street and Herman Avenue just before midnight.

John Adamchik, 37, of Trafford, suffered a gunshot wound to the knee. He was taken to a local hospital and was last listed in stable condition.

The front glass door of a nearby building was shattered and a forensics team was called to fingerprint a couple of cars.

Kien Carpenter, 26, of Wilmerding, was arrested a short time later. He is currently in the Allegheny County Jail and will face charges of aggravated assault and weapons violations.

People in the area reported hearing several shots being fired.

At Lulu'z Styles next door, the owners say a shooting so close makes them feel uncomfortable.

"This is getting ridiculous with the crime down here, it's terrible," Jennifer Sprowls said. "There's kids around here, there's a park right here. It's a safety issue and they just don't care. They come in and they shoot for no reason, it's scary," Sprowls said.

The business owners say this is just the latest shooting to happen near them. Within the past month, their maintenance man was shot and killed.
