Man Accused Of Burning, Beating 20-Month-Old Child

SAXONBURG (KDKA) -- A man is facing charges after police in Butler County say he abused a 20-month-old baby and burned her with cigarettes.

Cody Vaughn, 26, is charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person.

In June, officers were contacted by Child and Youth Services for a report of suspected abuse in Saxonburg. It is believed that the 20-month-old suffered the abuse in the morning hours of June 21.

Caseworkers have documented the incident with pictures showing the child's injuries: a dark bruise under the eye, an abrasion under a toe on the left foot, a dark scab on the underside of the top lip, a red circular mark on the stomach, a red circular mark on the forearm, a red circular mark on the left buttock and a white circular mark on the right buttock.

Vaughn told police that the baby was sitting with him in bed watching television when she fell forward, hitting an open drawer and then the floor. He said he immediately picked her up and put ice on her face.

Shortly afterward, Vaughn became unable to reach and his physical whereabouts are now unknown.
