Rachel Carson Bridge Shut Down, Work Begins On Long-Term Rehab Project

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Rachel Carson Bridge, connecting Downtown Pittsburgh to the North Shore, is now shut down for a long-term rehab project.
The span closed early Monday morning, and it will not reopen until the summer of 2020.
Crews are planning a total rehab of the bridge, similar to the one done a few years ago on the Andy Warhol Bridge.
The Warhol Bridge was shut down from Aug. 15, 2016 through Nov. 18, 2017, to undergo a $26 million rehabilitation project.
The Rachel Carson Bridge was built in 1926, and was known as the Ninth Street Bridge until it was renamed 13 years ago.
Rehabilitation on the final sister bridge, the Roberto Clemente (Sixth Street) Bridge, will be done following the completion of the Rachel Carson Bridge.
