Carport Collapses, Kills Man Sitting Underneath

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A man in Indiana County died after a carport collapsed on him.

The coroner said 52-year-old Richard Rearick was sitting on a chair underneath the covered structure when it fell and caused blunt force trauma to his head.

Rearick's mother reported hearing a large cracking followed by a crash outside the house.

She discovered her son stuck under the carport. First responders arrived to lift the structure up.

Officials the failure occurred where the roof was attached to the roof trusses of the house.

The coroner says Rearick was killed instantly after being struck with the roof.
