911th Airlift Wing Performs Hospital Flyover, Saluting Coronavirus Frontline Healthcare Workers

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- If you heard the roaring of planes flying over your neighborhood this morning, it was military members taking time out on Memorial Day to honor medical workers on the frontlines of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The 911th Airlift Wing's C-17 Globemaster III passed over hospitals to salute doctors, nurses, first responders and all other health care professionals caring for those with COVID-19.

The flyover went over multiple hospitals in Beaver, Butler and Washington counties.

Those include Butler VA Hospital, Heritage Valley Beaver, Ohio Valley General (Kennedy), Armstrong County Memorial Hospital (Kittanning), Allegheny General Canonsburg, Allegheny General Hospital Washington and Washington Hospital.

There was also a low approach to the Pittsburgh International Airport and Aspinwall areas.

The 911th Airlift Wing says the flyover was not part of any of their Memorial Day events; instead, it is meant to honor health care workers.
