Mayor Of Monessen Issues Emergency Proclamation Due To Increasing Coronavirus Cases

MONESSEN (KDKA) -- The Mayor of Monessen has reissued an emergency proclamation due to the Coronavirus.

The previous proclamation spanned March 17 to June 5. The city of Monessen says it is seeing an increase in case numbers. As of July 16, there were at least 24 confirmed or presumed positive cases of the virus in Monessen.

All city properties will remain open during the state of emergency, including the Monessen Public Library and Cultural Center, the Monessen Civic Center, Monessen Police Department and Monessen City Hall but at limited capacity. Only 12 people will be allowed per every 1,000 square feet.

Public gatherings will be limited to no more than 25 people, and residents are encouraged to wear a mask while indoors in public places. Public meetings are not affected unless otherwise specified but people are encouraged to stay home instead of attending the meetings in-person.

The guidance issued is for specifically city-owned buildings and private businesses should follow the Wolf administration's guidance on social distancing, according to Mayor Matt Shorraw.
