Before joining the KDKA-TV News team in 1994, Ken spent six years reporting and anchoring for WTAE-TV. A native of the Chicago Area, Ken began his career in journalism while attending the University of Wisconsin in Madison -- reporting and anchoring news on the statewide Wisconsin Public Radio network. Ken then moved into television, reporting for Madison's WISC-TV, and eventually anchoring its evening newscasts. Ken's reporting assignments have taken him from the eye of Hurricane Hugo to the White House, and from the inspection of hanging chads in the disputed 2000 election in Florida to Super Bowls XXX in Phoenix and XL in Detroit. In 1994, when US Air Flight 427 crashed on approach to Pittsburgh, Ken's reports from the scene were carried nationwide by the CBS network and across Canada on the CBC. He is one of the few local journalists ever to report live on the CBS Evening News -- in the tense hours following a shooting spree in Pittsburgh's suburbs in 2000. As a member of the KDKA Investigators in 1996, Ken exposed the city of Pittsburgh's recycling program as a sham -- revealing how "recyclables" were simply being dumped in a landfill. His reporting led directly to the firing and prosecution of the city's recycling contractor. In another investigation, Ken was first to document how local companies were overcharging Medicare by millions of dollars. Ken has been honored with local, state and national journalism awards, including a national first place Associated Press award for an investigation called Harrisburg Paydirt – which exposed Pennsylvania legislators' lucrative, taxpayer-funded perks. Other honors include Golden Quill awards from the Pittsburgh Press Club and awards from the Radio-Television News Directors Association for investigative reporting. Active in the community, Ken developed and taught a television news reporting course at Point Park University and is frequently called upon to speak at local schools and community organizations. He can be seen anchoring the KDKA-TV Morning News from 4:30am-7am on KDKA-TV and the KDKA-TV Morning News on Pittsburgh’s CW from 7am-8am on WPCW-TV. In addition, Rick hosts Hometown High-Q, KDKA-TV’s Saturday morning high school quiz show. While much of his morning is spent behind the anchor desk, Rick’s passion is being in the field — listening to people and sharing their stories. Whether it is covering the President or local politics, the native of Grove City strives to figure out how news of the day impacts viewers in KD Country. For more than three decades, Rick has been involved in many facets of the broadcast business. Before coming home to Pittsburgh, Rick spent seven years at WOWK in Charleston/Huntington, WV. He anchored the continuing coverage of the Sago Mine disaster, and the joyful return of Army private Jessica Lynch to West Virginia. He was on the scene covering the campus shootings at Virginia Tech and traveled with the West Virginia Mountaineer basketball team as they made an unlikely run through the NCAA Tournament to the Elite 8 in Albuquerque. He shared the elation of Marshall Thundering Herd fans in Huntington and Hollywood, CA for the debuts of the feature film ‘We Are Marshall.’ Rick spent many years covering sports as the sports director of the North Carolina News Network at the Capitol Broadcasting Company in Raleigh, North Carolina. He called play-by-play for hundreds of college basketball and baseball games in the ACC. Rick also covered the National Hockey League for five seasons – including three as a broadcaster on the Carolina Hurricanes Television Network. Dayton hosted the syndicated radio shows Drive Time: The Golf Radio Show and Winston Cup Today. Dozens of national and regional awards have recognized his work. Dayton first stepped behind a microphone in 1983 in his hometown of Grove City as a newscaster and DJ at WEDA-FM. He continued in radio through four years at The College of Wooster before choosing a career in sales after graduation. Five years later, his passion for journalism won out, and he moved back to the broadcast business. Rick says one of the biggest honors of his career came when KDKA offered the opportunity to come home to western Pennsylvania. Rick and his wife Jenny have three sons. He loves to play golf, and if he is not on the links, he is likely at a baseball field watching one of the boys play the game he adores. Rick is also accomplished on the other side of the camera. He owns and operates Rick Dayton Photography and shoots weddings, senior portraits, families, and sports.</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-33072" title="Most Recent Stories" src="http://cbsminnesota.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/most_recent_stories2.jpg" alt="" />

As a physician with the added credential of an advanced journalism degree, she has been recognized for her work with the Award of Excellence from the National Association of Medical Communicators in 2006, two nominations for a Mid-Atlantic National Association of Television Arts and Sciences Emmy Award in 2006 and 2007, and an Emmy award in 2008. She was awarded the Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association Award in 2011, and the SWPA Media & Mental Health Award in 2013. In 2014, she was a Golden Quill finalist. She was bestowed the Media Orthopaedic Reporting Excellence Award in 2015 and 2016. A leader in medical journalism, she has served on the Board of Directors of the Association of Health Care Journalists, and the National Association of Medical Communicators. In addition to reporting for KDKA, she has been a clinical assistant professor of neurology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and prior to that was in private practice neurology in Beaver County. Transitioning into a new specialty, she is pursuing a masters degree in public health, focusing on how the mass media affect public health. In 2001, she decided to explore her long-standing interest in mass media, and entered the journalism and mass communication masters program at Point Park University. By 2003, she had completed her M.A. in journalism and mass communication. She has taught medical journalism to both journalism students and medical students at Pittsburgh area universities. Her other teaching activities include serving as faculty on the NIH’s “Medicine and the Media Symposium” in July 2004, as a Hearst Visiting Professional at Arizona State University in September 2005, and as a conference panelist for the Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality in July 2006. In 2012, She was the commencement speaker for Master's Degree Hooding and Degree Conferral for her J-school alma mater, Point Park University. She has written for PLoS (Public Library of Science) Medicine, Neurology Reviews, and the Pittsburgh Business Times. Her book review of the Health Writer’s Handbook appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association. She’s been featured in USA Today and Television Week. Before her careers in medicine and television, she undertook studies at West Virginia University, where she graduated summa cum laude with degrees in both biology and chemistry in 1989. In 1993, she earned her M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Maria grew up in Morgantown, W.Va. Like many weather enthusiasts, Jeff is very passionate about the weather and has a great respect for it. "My job is to inform the people of my hometown about the potential impact of a weather situation, so they can take the necessary steps to protect their property and, more importantly, their lives." Jeff is a member of the American Meteorological Society, the National Weather Association and the International Association of Broadcast Meteorologists. In February 2008, he was inducted into the National Meteorologist Hall of Fame in Punxsutawney, Pa. He also serves as a trained weather spotter for the Pittsburgh office of the National Weather Service. When he's not watching the sky or tracking the next approaching storm system, Jeff can be found talking about it with area elementary students. Every year the Weather Classroom hits the road to educate kids about some of the basics of weather and forecasting. Here in Pittsburgh, Jeff began his broadcasting career on the radio at WVTY-FM (Variety 96) and WRRK-FM (Magic 97) where he was an on-air personality and morning show producer. He came to KDKA-TV from KRGV-TV in Weslaco, Texas, where he forecast the weather for the morning and noon broadcasts. While in Texas, Jeff received great on-the-job severe weather training. He covered numerous hurricanes and also chased countless "Texas-sized" super cells every spring. Born and raised in Sewickley, Jeff attended Quigley High School in Baden, PA and graduated as an Alden Scholar from Allegheny College in Meadville with a degree in Broadcast Communications and English. He received his degree in Meteorology from Mississippi State University. Depending on the season, you can find Jeff doing a variety of different things outdoors. In the winter, he enjoys lots of powdery snow, a steep hill and freshly waxed skis. In the summer, you'll find him 'trying' to stretch a double into a triple in his weekend softball league. And, any time of year, Jeff likes to head below sea level for scuba diving with sharks. Jeff, his wife Shelly and their sons Alexander and Carson live in the Wexford area.</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <strong>Get To Know More About KDKA's Jeff Verszyla With His Answers To These 22 Questions: </strong> [anvplayer video="3719676" station="CBS Pittsburgh"] <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-33072" title="Most Recent Stories" src="http://cbsminnesota.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/most_recent_stories2.jpg" alt="" />

Bob began his broadcasting career in 1979 at Beaver Falls radio station WBVP. From there, he went on to WKBN Radio in Youngstown. His first television job was also in Youngstown -- at WYTV. Since then, he's worked at TV stations in Memphis, Louisville, Kentucky and Toledo, Ohio. Most recently, Bob spent three years as a General Assignment reporter and part-time anchor at the NBC affiliate in Kansas City. During the Gulf War crisis, Bob also worked at KDKA-TV, providing hourly updates during the early morning hours. After working at six television stations since 1982, Bob is finally fulfilling his dream of working as a reporter in his hometown -- a goal that he set for himself "many years ago." A Langley High School graduate, Bob attended Penn State University and Point Park College. In addition to his son Ryan, Bob's parents and four sisters also call Pittsburgh home.
