Ah, fruitcake -- that holiday tradition that's become almost more of a joke than just a sweet treat these days. Although its popularity may be waning for some people, some Pittsburgh-area bakeries still offer fruitcake on their menus, and they're doing it well. From traditional fruitcake to more creative, small-scale takes to even gluten-free options, here are the best places to get your fruitcake in Pittsburgh, even after the holiday season. Maybe fruitcake will make a comeback in popularity!

Oakmont Bakery was established in 1988 as Oakmont's only full-service retail bakery, and they have been going strong ever since, from expanding the bakery to the point of being named Retail Bakery of the Year by Modern Baking magazine in 2010. While Oakmont Bakery has a large selection of everything from breads to cookies to pies, one of their seasonal offerings includes fruitcake. For $24, you can get one of their three-pound fruitcakes. You can even order online, but you'll have to place your order at least two days in advance.

Wood Street Bread Company has been hand molding breads from scratch without additives since 1996. The bakery offers a large variety of bread to choose from, including everything from chocolate cherry to jalapeño cheddar. For the holidays, they bake Stollen, a German fruitcake with dried cherries, citrus peel, golden raisins, walnuts and Christmas spices. Their breads can also be found at various local markets. In the summer months, Wood Street Bread Company sets up at many local farmers markets, or you can catch them year round every Saturday at the East Liberty Farmers Market.

If you're up for venturing a little bit outside of Pittsburgh to the town of Greensburg, White Rabbit has your fruitcake needs covered. They even offered a peek at the fruitcake ingredients on their Facebook page. In addition to fruitcake and other baked goods, they also offer German Stollen bread, custom cakes, other specialty baked goods, as well as specialty teas. You can even book the bakery for special events on Sundays.
