Best Student Deals For Pittsburgh Arts

The city of Pittsburgh hosts a multitude of arts organizations, from the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Many of these organizations offer student discounts, allowing university students to experience the arts at a fraction of the usual price. Here is a short list of some of those organizations.

Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh

The Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh include the Andy Warhol Museum, Carnegie Museum of Art, Carnegie Museum of Natural History and Carnegie Science Center. These museums have static exhibits and also host a variety of traveling exhibits throughout the year. All of these museums offer student discounts with ID. Additionally, CMU and Chatham University students gain free admission with their student IDs. Pitt students gain free admission to the Warhol, Art and Natural History museums during the fall and spring semesters.

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust encompasses many arts organizations in Pittsburgh. It offers an ARTSpassport for students which provides advanced purchase discount student tickets for theater, music and dance, discounts at select restaurants, and invitations to cast parties and gallery openings. Additionally, the individual organizations within the cultural trust offer student discounts with ID. These organizations include the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Pittsburgh Dance Council, Pittsburgh Musical Theater, Pittsburgh Opera and the Pittsburgh Public Theater.

The Mattress Factory on the North Side is a museum of contemporary art in which artists live and create their work as room-sized installations. There are permanent exhibits as well as travelling exhibits which change throughout the year. Student discounts are available with ID. Additionally, CMU students gain free admission year-round with ID and Pitt students may visit for free with ID during the fall and spring semesters.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra plays at historic Heinz Hall in downtown Pittsburgh. The accomplished orchestra plays a range of classical and contemporary music and hosts a variety of high profile conductors and instrumentalists. They also tour internationally. The orchestra offers a variety of student discounts on ticket subscriptions as well as discount Student Rush tickets two hours prior to select concerts with proper ID. Pitt students may also obtain discounts through the Pitt Arts program (http://www.pittarts.pitt.edu/).

The Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens are housed in a Victorian greenhouse within Schenley Park in the Oakland neighborhood. Open daily, the conservatory displays a multitude of plants and flowers year-round. The conservatory also hosts a variety of art exhibits throughout the year, which are carefully matched with the existing botanical displays. The conservatory offers student discounts with ID, and Pitt students may obtain free admission with ID during the fall and spring semesters.
