Tosca Latest To Interview With Pirates

PITTSBURGH (AP) Former Blue Jays manager Carlos Tosca, just hired as new Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez's bench coach, has interviewed for the Pittsburgh Pirates manager's job.

Tosca is the seventh candidate to interview with the Pirates since John Russell was fired on Oct. 4. Among the group was John Gibbons, who succeeded Tosca as Toronto's manager.

Tosca had a 191-191 record with Toronto from 2002-04. His only full season was 2003, when the Blue Jays went 86-76 and finished third in the AL East. Tosca was a Florida Marlins coach under Gonzalez until he was fired in June.

The Pirates also interviewed former AL managers Eric Wedge and Ken Macha, plus Dale Sveum, Bo Porter and Jeff Banister.
