Woman Steals $16,000 From Local Giant Eagle

CRAFTON (KDKA) -- Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a woman caught on surveillance pictures who robbed a grocery store of more than $16,000.

It happened Friday afternoon at the Giant Eagle store in the Crafton-Ingram Shopping Center.

Police say the woman was spotted coming out of the cash room by an employee who asked "Can I help you?"

The unidentified woman responded: "No I thought this was the ladies room. I didn't steal anything. I have two kids at home."

She then left the store.

A short time later, the woman turned up at Mugshots Bar around the corner, ordered a gin and juice and asked patrons at the bar for a ride to the bus way.

About the same time, store management discovered the money missing from the cash room. By the time police traced the woman to the bar, she had already left.

Barbara Steiner, the bartender, said the woman didn't appear nervous at all. In fact, Steiner said, "I wish I had known. I would have bought her a drink myself and held her here."

Police are hoping anyone with information about the suspect will contact Allegheny County Police.
