Peter Gammons On Pirates: In Year 3 of 7 Year Plan
Baseball Hall of Famer Peter Gammons joined Joe Starkey and Ken Laird on Sportsradio 93-7 The FAN today to discuss the Pirates hiring of Clint Hurdle as their manager. Peter said Hurdle had a lot of interest from the Mets, but the Pirates made sense for him in both a professional sense as well as for his family.
There was a warning in Gammon’s message today when he said that the Pirates are in year three of a plan that requires seven years to turn around an organization and that in today’s version Major League Baseball, you can’t compete unless you spend $80 million.
The guys wrapped things up with Gammons by discussing possible free agents the Pirates could bring in and Peter said he could see a guy like John Garland getting a look.
