Zach Duke Signs Contract With Diamondbacks

PHOENIX (KDKA/AP) — Former Pittsburgh Pirates left-hand pitcher Zach Duke, who was traded from the Pirates to the Arizona Diamondbacks for a player to be named later, signed a one-year deal with the D-Backs.

Duke was designated for assignment on November 19th along with Andy LaRoche and Delwyn Young.

By not choosing to bring back Duke, the Pirates avoided arbitration which could have cost the team as much as $6 million.

Duke went 8-15 with a 5.72 ERA in 29 starts last season for the Pirates. He has allowed 443 hits over the last two seasons, sixth-most in the majors.
