Couple Ties Knot During Polar Bear Plunge

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - It was rainy, but all-in-all a nice, mild day for this year's annual plunge into the frigid waters of the Mon River.

The Polar Bear Club takes the dip every year on New Year's Day.

However, this year one couple took the plunge literally.

Judy and Adam Lipinski exchanged vows, and then sealed the deal by hopping into the icy river.

"We were [going to] get married on 11/11/11, but we changed it to 1/1/11," said Judy. "Somebody said, 'You're [going to] miss the Polar Bear Plunge!' And we said, 'We'll just make it part of the ceremony.'"

"We had a very brief ceremony on the back of the boat right here," added Adam.

"Then we exchanged our rings," said Judy. "Then, we walked over, and we said as soon as we touch the water, we would be married."

The couple says they wanted a non-traditional wedding to symbolize their unique bond.
