Analyst: No Cause For Concern After Pens Loss

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Versus NHL Analyst Brian Engblom joined the FAN Morning Show to dissect the Penguins' 4-2 loss to the Bruins last night.

Leading 2-0 in the third period, the Penguins gave up four goals. Even so, Engblom says he isn't too concerned and fans shouldn't worry about it. "That's today's National Hockey League."

Engblom thinks the Penguins are very good at killing penalties; but over the course of the season, the special teams play will even out. He said, you might give up 4 goals in a period, but then shut out the opponent for the next nine straight games.

Aside from the loss, Kris Letang's performance has been generating a lot of discussion lately. Engblom says he believes Letang is a serious contender for the Norris Trophy, which is awarded to the leagues' top defensive player. Englom said Letang has become a much better skater and can handle the puck in key situations.

With Sidney Crosby out of the lineup, players have looked for Evgeni Malkin as the leader on the ice, but too many times he has not shown up. Engblom said the Penguins would be nuts if they tried to move Malkin or use him as trade bait. Engblom thinks Malkin's problem might be that he puts too much pressure on himself and holds onto the puck instead of passing it off to his teammates.
