Allegheny County Treasurer John Weinstein says many property owners don’t realize they qualify for tax relief under the Homestead Act. There are no age or income restrictions. A person must simply own the property and live in it.
The program reduces a property’s taxable value by $15,000 — even for school property taxes.
Weinstein says property owners can get an application by calling his office — or downloading the form from the county website. Here’s the link — http://www.county.allegheny.pa.us/opa/abate.aspx.
You need to get the application in by March first to qualify for this tax relief this year.
