Your Home May Qualify For Tax Relief Under Homestead Act

Allegheny County Treasurer John Weinstein says many property owners don't realize they qualify for tax relief under the Homestead Act. There are no age or income restrictions.  A person must simply own the property and live in it.

The program reduces a property's taxable value by $15,000 -- even for school property taxes.

Weinstein says property owners can get an application by calling his office -- or downloading the form from the county website.  Here's the link -- http://www.county.allegheny.pa.us/opa/abate.aspx.

You need to get the application in by March first to qualify for this tax relief this year.
