Local Firefighter Accused Of Forging Signatures On Checks

By Trina Orlando

PENN TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — Police believe a firefighter forged another firefighter’s signature to steal more than $2,500 from the department’s relief account.

This all happened at the Grandview Fire Department on Ridge Road in Penn Township.

Daniel Walker, 27, is facing charges of forgery, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

Checks require two signatures in order to be cashed.

Penn Township Police believe Walker forged another firefighter’s signature on nine checks in all.

Walker is free on $5,000 unsecured bond pending a preliminary hearing next month.

I am the treasurer of a local volunteer fire department, relief funds are given to each department in PA by the state, the state audits every department on a 2 – 3 year rotation. This would have been caught, you will not get away with this type of theft. I just can’t understand how desperate you need to be to attempt this. But we need to wait an see what the outcome is – “innocent until proven guilty”.
