Local Doctor Charged With Indecent Assault

WEXFORD (KDKA) — A local doctor is facing charges.

Northern Regional Police has charged 53-year-old Dr. Thomas Allen Tyma with indecent assault.

Tyma lives in Franklin Park and until recently practiced medicine at Allegheny North Arthritis Center in Pine Township.

Earlier this month, he was charged with indecently assaulting a 31-year-old female patient in his office.

Now Northern Regional Police have charged him in the alleged assault of four additional female patients.

In the case of the 31-year-old patient, the woman told police Dr. Tyma fondled her during an exam for back and hip arthritis.

According to an affidavit, the woman said Dr. Tyma told her to lie on a table so he could hear her heartbeat with a stethoscope.

The woman said Tyma ran his hand up her sweater and fondled her breast for 10 seconds.

Police initially arrested the doctor at his clinic on Jan. 11. He is free on bond pending a hearing before District Justice Regis Welsh on Feb. 11.

I have been a patient of Dr. Tyma for the past 2 years. He has been nothing but professional and caring. He is a wonderful doctor.

INext doctor??? It always amazes me. Just when I thought I heard the dumbest comment ever. Another moron like you comes along. Have you ever been molested?? I didn’t think so. SHUT YOUR STUPID PIE HOLE. The man is innocent until proven guilty. That being said. If he is guilty I doubt being HOT AND SEXY had anything to do with why he did what he did. I hope THE NEXT DR 2 FEEL U UP is not your mothers doctor or your daughters doctor you IDIOT!!!!

  3. Jackie Lindsey says:

I to have gone to Dr. Tyma for years and don’t believe for one second this is true!! He has always been extremely professional and would testify on his behalf in a heart beat!!

    1. Ed Wymer says:

      I don’t believe that Dr.Tyma is guilty.
I have been to him many times and have Built a great re pore with him.

I am a very good judge of charictor and think he is a very good guy.

Is it possible he was conducting an exam???
If he were going to feel you up I am sure he would have spent more time
      than 10 seconds.
By the way how do you know it was 10 seconds???
      and were you disappointed?

      1. KERI OCHS says:

I also am a patient of Dr. Tyma for many many years and he has always treated me with the highest respect and conducts himself very professionally. He has to listen to my heart also, I believe it is in the same place this woman’s is & being the excellent doctor that he is, I believe he spends a little more time than 10 seconds in that area . Now if you are a woman with issues about being touched during an examination, especially when you are being seen by a specialist in a field like this, then go to a female doctor!! Dont ruin this mans life & career because you are looking for attention or whatever you may be looking for. The other four of you ….why only now are you reporting this? Something so serious you are only now going to come forward and accuse this man of the same thing? Funny how that always happens!!!! Well its not funny to the other 99&3/4% of his patients that have NOT been supposedly indecently assulted!!!

  4. Deni Scott says:

I have been a patient of Dr. Tyma for many years and he is a wonderful doctor who is ALWAYS completely professional in all aspects of his behavior. I just hope I can continue to have him as my rheumatologist because I don’t believe any of these charges for a second.

  5. Ruthann Ochs says:

WOW one cries wolf and they all crawl out of the woodwork! How come their faces arn’t plastered all over the news? I don’t believe this for one second.

    1. Roseann says:

So true, this is just wrong to accuse a man of doing what he supposed to do,why wait for so long&not tell anyone, just wrong.

  6. M. McBride says:

I have been a patient of Dr. Tyma’s for over 12 years and have always found him to be a kind and compassionate physician who truly cares about his patients. I am deeply saddened that because of these accusations I can no longer receive medical care from the BEST physician I have been priviledged to know. He has my unequivocal support.

  7. Laurie McGinnis says:

Dr Tyma has been a lifesaver with my condition, he NEVER NEVER NEVER treated me in ANY innapproraite manner. This is just to hard to believe.
he is a wonderful doctor and I would reccomend him to ANYONE!

  9. R. Raffaele says:

Dr. Tyma has been a great doctor for me too. I find the charges very hard to believe. I will be curious to see how this plays out. He has my support.

  10. Spicket99 says:

I have been a patient of Dr. Tyma’s for over 5 yrs. I find it hard to believe he would do this especially if the woman won’t show their faces. He definitely has my support!!!

  11. Linda Graham-Love says:

I have been a patient of Dr. Tyma’s since 1998 and find him to be a man of tremendous character. That being said, I have also worked with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault for over 20 years and these accusations are extremely serious. I would never accuse a victim of seeking attention. I believe these women believe they were assaulted but I hope that further investigation proves Dr. Tyma was doing a simple exam and nothing sexual was involved. Please don’t accuse these women. Let us wait for the facts and I really do want Dr. Tyma’s name to be cleared.

  12. tdeca2011 says:

I am surprised by some comments, didn’t realize that mentality still exhisted. Only 2 people in that examroom so only 2 people know the truth. Why did some wait so long to report it, just read what is being said about these women. I know both Dr Tyma and 1 victim. I wouldn’t have thought that of Dr Tyma but I also know she wouldn’t make this up. I just hope some of you with these comments don’t ever have to go through something like this with your mother, wife, daughter, sister or friend. Think twice before you make comments about either party.

  13. Roseann says:

I am totally with you,I have been a patient of Dr Tyma’s for over 10 years,he is nothing but professional, helpful&very kind,PLEASE don’t ruin this man’s life,he is such a good doctor&hope to have him as my RA dr for many years to come.

  14. Joseph Hanke says:

In this day and age any respectable doctor who has to examine a woman for arthritis by exmaining her breasts would at least be smart enough to have a female nurse in the room as a witness for insurance purposes. This man is an idiot and is as shady as they get. 1 person would be suspect, multiple people leads to credibility of report. He should take a plea before receiving the maximium penalty he deserves. Alot of people have a fear of going to the doctor for fear of the results not fear of what the doctor might actually do to them. The shock is overwhelming and confusing and leads to disbelief that what has happened has just occurred. And as Vicki Parrish in the above comment states that the victims should be subjected to a lie detector,(really?), so should Dr. Tyma. Which probably won’t not only take a lie detector but won’t take the stand in his own defense.

    1. Linda Graham-Love says:

Dr. Tyma is a rheumatologist. He checks the 18 pressure points for fibromyalgia. You may want to look at a diagram showing those pressure points. Even if the women were there for arthritis, I would expect him to check for other possible problems, as any good doctor would. It is not a breast exam. In the 11 years I have gone to him, 90% of the time, there is someone in the room because he teaches and there is usually a student shadowing him. I have been to many doctors and have hade much more invasive and embarrasing exams. Never once did Dr. Tyma ever make me uncomfortable. I don’t believe Dr. Tyma would get a thrill out of a few seconds of touching a breast or buttocks! I think if the women would have gone back for subsequent visits, they would have found the exams to be less “personal” once his diagnosis has been made. I stand behind him 100% and will return to him as soon as his license is reinstated.

      1. Linda Graham-Love says:

I just re-read my comment to you Joseph and I apologize because I sound a bit abrasive. That is not my intent. I’m just so convinced of Dr. Tyma’s innocense, I tend to get on a soap-box! Sorry!

  15. michelle cahill says:

My mother is a patient of dr. Tymas and he has been nothing but caring and professional to her. She didn’t even switch dr.s when he moved from his office to his new office. She chose to drive the extra 30 mins to still be his patient. This is an absolutely ridiculous accusation. I hope this “victim” realizes she ruined his whole life and his family’s life. My mother and my family and I will do whatever is in our power to help out Dr. Tyma

  16. Spicket99 says:

Does anyone care about us patients that lost a great doctor?????

    1. CJ says:

Spicket 99, please allow me to spare you the trouble of continuing to jump from story to story and posting your same whiny question. NO! No one cares because it’s NOT ABOUT YOU!!!

  17. CJ says:

I have only one qustion. What do these women stand to gain by coming forward with the truth. Cash? There’s no money in criminal proceedings. Attention? The media does not reveal victims. All they have is the humiliating memory & finding the strength to try stop this from happening to other women. They also have to endure being cross examined, being called liars, having people speculate that they deserved it because they may be attractive & being crucified by narrow minded individuals. Doesn’t exactly sound like a good time to me.

  18. SG says:

Since when did listening to a woman’s heartbeat require a doctor to caress a woman’s breasts? I think all who deny that these allegations could be true should be ashamed. I hope you’re never in this woman’s shoes. Wouldn’t you feel awful to have something like this happen only to not be believed? Touching breasts has nothing to do with arthritis. I was just at my PCP yesterday and he checked my heartbeat and at no time did it require him to linger on my breasts.

  19. KATIEB says:

I was a patient of Dr. Tyma’s for over a decade. I have moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis. I was perfectly happy with Dr. Tyma in the beginning. However, I was never “examined” in the manner that these women bringing the charges have described, but I always had a relative with me in the examining room. I quit going to Dr. Tyma because his behavior changed and something seemed “off” and my gut told me it was time to get a new doctor. I don’t know if Dr. Tyma is guilty of these charges, but I do know that the Dr. Tyma I first saw in the 1990s was completely different than the rude doctor I last saw over a year ago.

  20. maureen says:

I also am a 42 year-old female patient of Dr. Tyma’s. He is a very professional doctor and never even gave me the incliniation of being inappropriate in any manner. I do not believe these charges for a second! During an examination, any doctor (Male or Female) WILL touch a woman’s breast when listening to heart sounds. The stethoscope should be moved over the left breast, under it and above it if done properly!!!

  21. D.G. says:

Dr. Tyma, has been my doctor, for a number of years, and I, have never had , any, uneasy, feelings, during my exams. I was absolutley schocked, when I heard these, accusations, I, couldnt believe, it!!! I, pray, that he will, soon, be aquitted of these charges, and back in the office, taking care of his, patients, where he belongs! we need him.
