OAKLAND (KDKA) – Six people were injured in an accident involving two Port Authority buses Tuesday morning.
The accident happened at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Thackeray Street in Oakland.
KDKA’s Ross Guidotti reported that one bus slid into the back of the other after hitting some ice on a steel plate in the road.
The steel plates are covering work being done on the roadway.
The six people were transported to local hospitals for treatment, but the injuries are not life-threatening.
One of the injured people is a pregnant woman. She was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
As a result of the accident, the intersection was closed for about an hour.
One bus suffered minor damage, while the other was put back into service.

That is because a lot of the Port Authority Drivers think they own the road and are careless with speed and turns, I’m quite surprised that there are not more accidents….but maybe there are and just not all reported to the media!

I rode buses all the time up until I moved out of Pittsburgh. I know what ya mean Marita. I think their speeding is a tradition. Also they do not hire experienced meaning 5 or more years of professional drivers. They CDL train them themselves. I know this because my husband has been a professional driver for 21 years. They would not hire him because he already had his CDL. Go figure.

And why to 98% of Port Authority drivers not wear seat belts? Are they exempt from the seat belt law? Just curious. Wish a PAT rep would answer this one.

The bus driver that slid on the metal plates, and rear ended the bus in front of her was by all means, following to close. You and I would have been pulled over for tailgating. Too many times,I have been on buses that are too close to each other.

not true ,,,,, the area in question is a bus stop which had enough room for 2 bus to board and alight passengers , he obviously was attempting to service the stop

I smell some lawsuits coming. PAT drivers speed thru red lights as well and they don’t even bat an eye when they are doing it.

ill answer that truthfully going thru light s happens but only because you either are already commited to the intersection or the light changes so fast that either you hit brakes hard and toss everyone to the floor or u keep it moving its a little different than in a car to stop a bus full of passenger on a dime
