Elderly Woman Injured In Jeannette Purse Snatching

JEANNETTE (KDKA) -- A 78-year-old woman was knocked down during a robbery in Jeannette.

Doris Watson had just picked up a prescription at the Rite Aid around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when two men attacked her.

"She had an injury to her right arm and shoulder during that purse snatching," Jeannette Police Chief Brad Shepler said. "I believe that when they did take the purse, they did in fact knock her down."

Watson was taken to the hospital. A witness chased the two robbers, described as white men, but they got away.

Jeannette police believe the muggers were after money for drugs.

"In this day and age, pretty much 90 to 99 percent of everything goes back to that," Shepler said.

Watson was released from the hospital. Police are asking for witnesses to come forward.

Investigators say they do have strong leads in the case.
