Church Break-Ins Probed In Harrison City

HARRISON CITY (KDKA) -- Penn Township police are investigating a rash of church break-ins over the weekend.

Police were called to St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Harrison City around 9 p.m. Friday after a burglar alarm went off at the church office building. The priest says someone kicked in the front door then went out a sliding glass door in the back without taking a thing.

On Saturday morning, two more burglaries were discovered at Harrison City churches.

At Zion's Lutheran Church someone broke-in through a ground level window in the back of the building. Around $180 was taken from the pastor's desk.

Police aren't sure how the burglars entered at Harrison City United Church of Christ, but say nothing was taken.

Pastors at two of the churches said they are praying for the person or persons who did this because it is clearly the work of someone who is desperate. They are hoping the suspects will be caught so that they can get the help that they need.

In the meantime, Penn Township Police are going through surveillance video from local businesses trying to get some sort of description of the person or persons involved. They are asking other churches and businesses in the area to lock their doors, leave lights on and be more vigilant until this case is solved.
