PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Penguins general manager Ray Shero continues his wheeling and dealing prior to Monday’s NHL trade deadline.

Former Penguin Alexei Kovalev is coming back to Pittsburgh. The rumored trade was finalized this morning.

KDKA-TV Sports is hearing the Pens are only giving up a 7th round draft pick in exchange for Kovalev.

In order for the trade to happen, Kovalev needed to drop his no-trade clause. Ironically, Kovalev is celebrating his 38th birthday today.

In 54 games with Ottawa this season, Kovalev recorded 14 goals and 13 assists.

He played with the Penguins from 1998-2003.

We’ll have more reaction and details tonight on KDKA-TV Sports at 6 p.m.

  • Not Irony

Please explain the irony that it’s his birthday.

  • Websters

Coincidentally, this must be that Alanis Morrisette type of irony.

  • Not Irony

    hahahaha. EXACTLY!!!

  • Ron Cook

Looks like good use to me

  • Reality Bites

    Can you define irony?

Ron, you need to read this irony explanation by the funniest man that ever lived.

Too old too slow and if we do not get healthy quick it will not matter. I am hearing Sid done for the year if true no Cup period. We also need our other skill players back. Kovy was good years ago but not any more. Only good thing it was only 7th round pick so that tells you he is not valuable at all. Shero doing best he can and I respect him but way to many injuries this year

  • Chris Westerlund

What are the chances that that draft pick would even play 20 games for the Pens anyway.

  • scotty bowman

Great point Chris. 7th round means Wilkes-Barre

  • Mike Tomlin

    Not Wilkes-Barre. You mean Wheeling.

  • Brooklyn Bridge

I heard Crosby fell on his head when thrown from a mechanical bull at a Cole Harbour joint named Teets On A Bull. Can anyone verify this?

  • Mike V

Yep. Ironically, Crosby was celebrating his 23rd birthday at the time.

  • Learn your birthdays

That woul be funny except Sid’s birthday isn’t until August. Want to try and be funny with the right facts???

  • S T D

    FACT: you got burned!
