Penguins GM Ray Shero Talks Kovalev Trade

Ray Shero joined Seibel, Starkey, and Miller on Sportsradio 93-7 The FAN today to talk about his most recent trade which brought Winger Alex Kovalev back to the Penguins in exchange for a conditional 7th round draft pick.

Ray admitted there is always a risk involved when bringing in rental players, but they expect Kovalev to play a major role on the power play given his great hands and skill level which plug a hole the team desperately needed to fill.

Ray also talked about the current state of the Penguins saying the minor league players have stepped up and he takes pride in hearing from people around the league that give them credit for how hard they have been playing despite missing their superstars.

When it comes to possibly making more moves, Ray said they have some cap space left and certainly won't be going on vacation now that they've made a couple of moves.  If any more moves are to be made though, Ray admitted they most likely won't involve prospects Beau Bennett or Simon Despres.

Ray wrapped things up by giving an update on Captain Sidney Crosby's status saying he thinks he has been on the exercise bike and looks much better than he did a month ago, but his biggest concern is Sid's long-term health.  The current projection for Crosby though is that he is week-to-week and will possibly never be ruled out for the entire season because they will always hold out hope that he can make a return at some point this year.
