NFLPA Creates 'Strike Fund' To Help Players

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com reported that the NFL Players Association will help offset the loss of money with a "strike fund" they have set up.

According to Prisco's sources, the union will be giving the players a lump-sum check depending on years of experience.

Players with three years or more in the NFL will receive a check for $59,000, while first and second year players will receive less than that.

The Players Association created the "strike fund" for this very reason. The money will come from the dues and royalties that players have paid into the union.

The current CBA expires on March 3 and the union is expecting the owners to lock out the players on Friday.

If the lockout happens, the NFL estimates that more than 70 players with existing contracts could lose up to $140 million in salary advances or bonuses due on March 4 or later.
