Officials Investigate Fatal Crash In South Strabane Twp.

SOUTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A two-vehicle accident in Washington County left one woman dead Friday night.

According to police, the accident happened on the northbound side of Interstate 79 around 9 p.m. near the South Junction Interchange.

John Cruise, 24, of Morgantown, W. Va., did not notice the car in front of him slow down.

His 2008 Dodge Charger slammed into the back of a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero, which caused the driver to lose control.

The impact forced the vehicle to travel through the grassy median and into the southbound lanes. The vehicle began to barrel roll and the driver was ejected.

Cynthia Bittengle, 49, of St. Clairsville, Ohio was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both southbound lanes were closed for about three hours while accident reconstruction teams conducted their investigation.

Officials with Washington County 911 say the female driver lost control and was ejected……….sigh……….but i thought seatbelts took lives not ejections.

  2. I drive it says:

Soon all the nutjobs will be posting about seat belt use and how they know people that were killed while wearing their seat belt.

But after reading other news sites, I think there are 3 causes to this PREVENTABLE death. Here’s young John, who’s a super great driver, and he knows it, in his super bad Charger, not paying attention to whats in front of him while moving 70 mph on I-79. Hits the innocent victim in her top heavy Montero which rolls and throws her out while not wearing a belt.

That’s two. The third cause is the total lack of speed enforcement by the state in that area. The speeding is out of control in that area . The state only shows up after the wreck never before to patrol.

I would like to know how Jennifer Ruttinger got off her charges of DUI when her daughter died 1-month ago…Washington county DA did not file charges within thirty days, now they never can…How did that Happen?

    1. Responding says:

Who are you..? Appears you don’t know anything!

  4. Just a driver trying to get to work! says:

It’s time to slow that area down. I drive that road every day and the speeds are getting ridiculous. I keep wondering how many more accidents is it gonna take until the police start to crack down on those that feel that need to speed. Then there is the tractor trailer drivers who really do believe they own the road. Really??? Is it necessary to be driving 80 mph plus while weaving from lane to lane. Enough is enough. It’s time for the Police to get it done.

  5. ??? says:

So, the article gives the woman’s name and the closes with “the victim’s name has not been released”…?????

  6. Hit from behind AGAIN says:

Something just like this happened a few weeks ago on 79 North by the Meadowlands exit and took 2 brothers lives….Both cars where going North on 79 and we never found out WHY the 18 yr old hit the one in front of her and that car went out of control and rolled over and killed 2 and 2 where injured…. At least the 24 yr old admitted he didn’t see the car infront of him slow down…WHY oh WHY can we not pay attention on the road… Sending prayers to the victims family…
