Officials Investigate Fatal Crash In South Strabane Twp.

SOUTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A two-vehicle accident in Washington County left one woman dead Friday night.

According to police, the accident happened on the northbound side of Interstate 79 around 9 p.m. near the South Junction Interchange.

John Cruise, 24, of Morgantown, W. Va., did not notice the car in front of him slow down.

His 2008 Dodge Charger slammed into the back of a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero, which caused the driver to lose control.

The impact forced the vehicle to travel through the grassy median and into the southbound lanes. The vehicle began to barrel roll and the driver was ejected.

Cynthia Bittengle, 49, of St. Clairsville, Ohio was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both southbound lanes were closed for about three hours while accident reconstruction teams conducted their investigation.
