3 Injured In Route 28 Crash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Three people were hospitalized Sunday after an accident on Route 28.

Officials say the driver of an SUV lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a concrete barrier.

The crash caused traffic back-ups Sunday afternoon from the Route 28 south on-ramp to the Highland Park Bridge.

The driver reportedly suffered a leg injury. She and two other passengers were taken to nearby hospitals. Weather may have been a factor in the crash.

State police are investigating.

what about coverage of the one from last night. my understanding is that there was a head on collision in the “express” lane between millvale and the 40th street bridge. people have been complaining about this because it keeps happening that people get confused and enter there. it’s a matter of time until there are tragic consequences and someone really needs to do something about this and make people aware.

The area between the the 31st and 40th St bridges is an accident waiting to happen also. PenDOTneeds to take a look at these safety issues BEFORE someone dies on Rt28!

People need to drive slower, nine times out of ten speed is the reason people are crashing. If you take notice, the wreck usually involves a suv of some sort.People you are not immune to crashing if your in a suv, they slide on ice too.I have an idea,SLOW DOWN,save your life and more importantly save the lives of others. If you have to be somewhere, allow yourself more travel time to get there, don’t try to make time up by driving fast. The sad part is,people just don’t listen to reason, they wouln’t listen, they just don’t get it.Mabye when its them or their loved one they will understand to SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!

      agree, people drive to fast.

  • Me

Yes, a lot of people drive too fast for the road conditions. They must think they can stop on ice and snow as well as they could on dry pavement.

But also, when the weather is just about perfect and no road problems, my husband and I get behind people who drive TOO slow and are going about 10 miles under the speed limit. There should be tickets given out for that too.

I agree with these comments but this situation with the express lane has to be addressed. I know several people who have been travelling southbound through it and someone has entered incorrectly travelling north. Penndot has been closing the bus/truck lane at night and you are forced to take that express lane or exit at millvale. unfortunately the accident last night really is an opportunity to make this point. i didn’t hear it reported among all the other accidents that were just reported on the noon news.

  • NM

The express lane of route 28 is a nightmare. I’m an officer in the area and we complain to Penndot all of the time. They won’t listen, they just expect people to understand. People keep listening to their GPS and it tells them to merge left to go over the 40th Street Bridge, but that merge doesnt exist anymore. Its going to end in tragedy!

    • Lisa

The GPS! That never even occurred to me. That explains a lot. Oh boy, they really need to do something. I still don’t see the accident from last night reported on by anyone. I was behind the ambulance and watched as they tried to figure out how to get in there to get to them. If the media won’t draw attention to it, I don’t know who will. I will contact my state rep tomorrow about it, though.

Hey Lisa…did you see the new barriers they put up on 28 where northbound switches to one lane? Now you can move on with your life instead of complaining on here.
