I was the woman in the Westmoreland County accident.I was traveling on Hermanie Rd. when a deer darted out on the opposite side of the road and stopped right in front of me.I tried to swerve to miss it and didnt have time to stop. I hit the backside of the deer and it made me loose control of my car.The next thing I knew the car was out of control when I hit the grass and I guess from it being so wet, there was nothing I could do. I was 2 feet from hitting a pole, went down the embankment about 10 feet from the road and flipped five times. All I could do was close my eyes, brace myself and I kept repeating”dear lord”. Finally I came to a stop, car upside down and I was pinned inside with nothing visable. My leg was trapped under the steeringwheel and the ground. My car had t-tops and if I weren’t wearing my seatbelt, i would have been ejected.I felt around the car in the dark for my flash-light, then was able to find my phone. There was a fireman behind me and he saw the whole thing. He was right there calling the authorities.Fireman and medics were there fast to get me out.I was pinned.A very nice medic stayed where I could hear him, keeping me calm until the door was pryed open.I got out of the crash with very sore muscles,a rash and bruise on my neck from the seatbelt, glass and minor cuts on both my hands. The car was crushed. I concider myself very lucky.Thank you to all who was there for me.Have yet another blessed day.

I’m glad that you are OK but it is rarely a good idea to swerve to avoid an animal. There is much less chance of losing control if you hit the animal head on. Not worth your own life to spare a deer or your front bumper and grille.

    1. Melissa Schaeffer says:

You sound like someone’s father. The poor woman was just in a crash, and is lucky to be alive. Sheesh! I hope that this never happens to you, but if it does, I hope that you have enough time to reason with yourself to not hit the deer.

1st Crash listed. I believe the kid was flown via helicopter to the hospital and did not make it through the night and died from his injuries. RIP.

  4. Girl says:

No the first kid listed is okay, he just has no feelings in his leg. He was my friend and crashed on my property. He did not die.
