WVU's Tournament Ends With 71-63 Loss To Kentucky

TAMPA BAY (KDKA) – The Big East Conference set a record by getting 11 teams invited to the NCAA Tournament. However, the opening rounds of the tournament have sent several of those teams home early.

Louisville, Georgetown, St. John's and Villanova all exited the dance in the Round of 64.

On Saturday, Kentucky's big second half powered them to a 71-63 victory over West Virginia.

West Virginia, the No. 5 seed in the East Region, led the Wildcats 41-33 at the half. However, No. 4-seed Kentucky came out firing and took control of the game in the second half.

Brandon Knight led all scorers with a career-high 30 points in the win. Terrence Jones added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for Kentucky.

Joe Mazzulla led the way for the Mountaineers with 20 points. Darryl Bryant and Casey Mitchell finished with double digit point totals with 15 and 11 respectively.

West Virginia shot 41 percent from the field in the game, while Kentucky shot 48 percent.

Kentucky won the battle on the glass by a margin of 34-29, including 25 defensive rebounds.

With the win, Kentucky advances to the Sweet 16 and will face the winner of No. 1 Ohio State and No. 8 George Mason.
