Vuk's Sunday Notes (4-3)

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Scanning twitter, the internet and local sources, here are some local sports notes and opinions that might interest you.
(I'll update this through the day.)

*For those people criticizing the Pirates bullpen, I'll bet you can count on one hand the times this season that Evan Meek will blow a 3-run lead in the 8th inning. Yesterday was a fluke.

*If the Pirates win today, they would achieve a nice accomplishment of winning a road series. Consider that, they haven't done that since July 27th. The Pirates won just four road series all of last season.

*Here are some Pirates prospects that will start the season at AA/Altoona: catcher Tony Sanchez, outfielder Starling Marte (who will be a start with the Pirates), right-hander Bryan Morris, left-hander Jeff Locke, outfielder Quincy Latimore and right-hander Aaron Pribanic.

*Despite the win last night, the Pens still hold a 3 point lead over Tampa Bay for the 4th seed. The Lightning will have a tough road game tonight in Chicago.

*California defensive end Cameron Jordan will visit the Steelers tomorrow. Jordan recorded 51 tackles and 6 sacks for the Golden Bears last season. He's a possibility for the Steelers with the 31st pick.

*A big-time offensive lineman will also visit the South Side tomorrow. Florida State guard-tackle Rodney Hudson will interview with the Steelers. He's a two-time winner of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, recognized as the top offensive lineman in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

*The 9th place team from the Big East conference is playing for the national championship. UConn will take on Butler tomorrow night at 9:20 pm. If UConn wins, was the Big East still overrated?

*The Penguins just might have the best backup goalie in the league. How about these numbers for Brent Johnson: 11-5-3 record, 2.19 goals-against average, .920 save percentage.
