Taillon To Make Professional Debut

Jameson Taillon, the #1 prospect in the Pirates organization, will be making his professional debut this week.

Taillon, the No. 2 pick in last year's draft, is set to make his pro debut tomorrow as a member of the Pirates' low-A West Virginia affiliate.

Taillon will face the Nationals' Hagerstown (Md.) affliate, who is led by the much talked about Bryce Harper, who was the #1 pick of the 2010 draft.

The Pirates' brass started Taillon off in Florida extended spring games instead of sending him directly to the minors. They're trying to keep Taillon's workload under control.

Here's some other news from "Down On The Farm."
*Brock Holt and Starling Marte each went 4-5 in Altoona's 8-7 win over Harrisburg. Marte extends his league-best hitting streak and consecutive games on base streak to 13 and 15 games respectively. Marte is hitting an impressive .385 for the season. Marte is a player that has a chance to be in Pittsburgh at some point in 2012. How about an outfield of Jose Tabata, Andrew McCutchen and Starling Marte? An infield of Pedro Alvarez, Neil Walker and Anthony Rendon?

*At Bradenton, 3B Elevys Gonzalez went 3 for 3 with 2 walks. He's now hitting .404 on the season. Aaron Baker went 2-5 with 2 RBI and now has 20 RBI on the season.
