Local Drive-In Movie Theaters

The owner of the Hi-Way Drive-In in Unity Township says he plans to close. He's pursuing development plans for a CVS store on the same property; although, officials have yet to approve them. The drive-in has been a Route 30 landmark since 1947. Despite this latest closing, Pennsylvania remains one of the top five states for drive-in movies. At the peak of their popularity in the late 1950s, there were more than 180 drive-ins in Pennsylvania. Today, 35 are still in operation, and 10 are in our area.
