Local Drive-In Movie Theaters

The owner of the Hi-Way Drive-In in Unity Township says he plans to close. He’s pursuing development plans for a CVS store on the same property; although, officials have yet to approve them. The drive-in has been a Route 30 landmark since 1947. Despite this latest closing, Pennsylvania remains one of the top five states for drive-in movies. At the peak of their popularity in the late 1950s, there were more than 180 drive-ins in Pennsylvania. Today, 35 are still in operation, and 10 are in our area. Drive -in Latrobe. We loved this Drive-In and we went every week. It was always packed and we would get there early to get the front row. My son loved going there and on the last day of school he said let’s go to the drive-in
It will be missed by us and our friends. I wish it woulld have hung on a little longer.
