Andrew McCutchen Contract News

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated has an update on the contract talks with the Pirates and Andrew McCutchen.

Last week Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported last week that the Pirates and McCutchen began preliminary contract extension talks.

Today, Heyman is reporting that the Pirates are talking to McCutchen about an extension but the team is insisting on a minimum of a 5-year deal.

A five year extension would buy out McCutchen's first year of free agency. The Pirates would then McCutchen, Neil Walker, Pedro Alvarez and Jose Tabata all under contract through the 2016 season.
