Ed Bouchette: NFL’s New Rules Target Steelers

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) — Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Steelers beat writer Ed Bouchette joined Vinnie & Cook on SportsRadio 93-7 The Fan.

He has no problem with James Harrison’s reaction to the NFL’s new rules on tackling, and admits he thinks the Steelers are being targeted by the new rules.

Ed also talks about why NFL coaches siding with the players in the lockout is a non-story, and he clears up Roger Goodell’s thoughts that a lockout is good for the long-term health of the league.

Bouchette please I know this targets the Steelers because they are tackling with the top of their helmets etc… However I think when you are growing up you are taught by every football caoch in highschool to put your facemask in the person’s chest and wrap up. For how good the Steeler’s Def is they can definitely tackle with serious force burying their facemasks in someones chest. Bouchette quit crying the Steelers will be ok.

The NFL decided to suddenly enforce some of their rules that they hadn’t really been enforcing over the years. Don’t you see how difficult it has been for the players to adjust? Give Harrison and all the players a break. James Harrison is just voicing his frustration. Re:everyone else on the team getting it, I say this: just because James is the guy being fined doesn’t mean he is necessarily deserving of them. It doesn’t mean he is NOT being targeted. The league was clearly targeting James. Anyone with any integrity could see that. Even some of the Ravens saw it. But you don’t. I don’t know how old you are but this league has been making rules to slow down the Steeler’s defense since the 70s. Just ask some of the former players. You’ve located yourself with your super bowl remark. I think you are the one who is arrogant.
