Flames Engulf Former Funeral Home In Larimer

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police sources say a fire that destroyed an old funeral home in Larimer is suspicious.

"Flames shot up everywhere," Renee Stewart said. "Everywhere."

Firefighters doused the building at 220 Auburn Street with water, saving adjacent buildings.

The building's owner, Tony Gaines, closed the funeral home three years ago.

"The only thing I can say is it's sad to lose this, period and a great chapter of Pittsburgh history," he said.

Gaines said arson investigators told him two people were seen on top of the roof just before the blaze started.

"There were two males up on the roof to the left of the building – 45 minutes the place was up in smoke," Gaines said.

Police sources confirm the sighting of those two individuals is under investigation.

Firefighters are still at the scene because there is still smoke coming from the building. No firefighters were injured.
