Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Dejan Kovacevic Talks MLB Draft, Pirates No. 1 Pick
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette who broke the story about the Pirates predicted to take Garritt Cole with the No.1 overall pick joined Seibel, Starkey and Miller on Sportsradio 93.7 The FAN and talked about the type of player Cole is and why he is such a good pick in the eyes of Neal Huntington.
Kovacevic says there isn’t a “no brainer” in this years draft, but feels the Pirates are more than likely going to pick up UCLA’s right-handed pitcher, Garritt Cole saying Cole has the big strong body, strong-arm, and easy delivery that appeals to the Pirate’s organization.
When asked about Cole’s teammate, Trevor Bauer, and the comparison of the two pitcher’s statistics, Kovacevic says there is minimal concern to GM’s when looking at wins versus losses in terms of potential production saying Cole’s stuff has greater potential in the majors.
Kovacevic also commented about where good pitchers would come from if not for the draft since he feels you generally cannot find them through trades and free agents if you are the Pirates.
