Snyder Likely Out For the Season

The back injury to Chris Snyder is worse than first thought.

The Pirates just announced that Snyder sustained a disc herniation at the L5-S1 level last night during the game. Chris has elected to have surgery tomorrow morning at Allegheny General Hospital with Dan Altman MD, Mark Fye MD and Patrick DeMeo MD. Status is uncertain at the present time.

It's highly unlikely to Snyder will be able to return to the team this season.

This is a tough break for the Pirates because Ryan Doumit is currently on the disabled list with a fractured ankle.

The team announced that Doumit will transition to Pirate City in Bradenton to continue his rehab. Doumit's status remains month-to-month with a tentative potential return in late July.

One other interesting note about the injury to Synder. This is the final year of his contract and the Pirates will have to decide whether to pick up this option which is for $6.75 million.
