Severe Weather Moves Through Area

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- While temperatures will not be as hot today, we do have to keep alert for the possibility of more scattered storms through this evening.

The latest storm to move through the area this afternoon is now causing problems on a local road. The view from NewsChopper 2 shows that Rodi Road in Penn Hills has significant flooding in some sections of the roadway.

Flood waters could be seen coming up around vehicles.

In Fayette County, emergency officials report that lightning struck a home on Painter Street in Everson. Firefighters were called due to flames on the roof, but the family was reportedly not home at the time.

Thursday's high hit 90 degrees, but today's high is expected to be just 84 with partly sunny skies.

KDKA's Dennis Bowman says we do have to watch for scattered thunderstorms, starting this afternoon through this evening with hail and high winds the main issues.

Then tonight, the low will be 65 degrees with a few thunderstorms still around.

"We've got hot weather down to the south - central and southern West Virginia will get real hot today - cooler air up to the north, and the boundary in between the two stretching right on through the Pittsburgh area, and showers and storms are going to be moving right along that boundary as we roll along today," said Bowman. "Eventually, we're going to kick this out of here, but that's going to take until about Sunday morning; so, between here and there we've got to deal with the storms."

He says that Saturday will be a very similar scenario with partly sunny skies, warm and humid conditions and a high of 86. There will be strong thunderstorms on a scattered basis.

"It's kind of an unsettled pattern with showers and storms still possible late tonight and into tomorrow morning; it's not going to rain all the time, but certainly, we're going to have to be prepared for comings and goings of storms," Bowman added.

Large hail and damaging winds are possible again.

The weather improves for Sunday with the passage of a cold front. Bowman expects lots of sun, less humid conditions and a high of 75.
