Cranberry Begins New Recycling Program

CRANBERRY (KDKA) - A brand new recycling program was unveiled in Cranberry Township today. Unlike traditional recycling efforts, with this program, when you pitch in, you can also cash in.

It is a high-tech device that turns recyclable bottles and cans into rewards. It works by scanning the UPC. it recognizes if it's plastic or aluminum and it tells you to put it right inside and when you're done, you can choose to print a receipt.

The device also offers some additional benefits, such as signing up online and tracking your recycling history, accumulating rewards.

While you're recycling, you're also helping veterans.

The more plastic bottles and cans you recycle, Pepsi Co. will donate to the "Entrepreneurship Boot Camp for Veterans with Disabilities."

Brian Miller, Director of Recycling at Pepsi Co. says this program "allows these vets to come back at no cost to them and learn to start their own business."

Miller also says, "The 'dream machine' kiosks are the first step in revolutionizing the way we recycle."

The recycling program is introducing over 20 machines into the Pittsburgh area with 7-Eleven Handee Marts. These machines are now active and ready to use. Look for more machines to come shortly says Miller.
