Pittsburgh (KDKA)- The Pirates are off to a quick start with signing members of their 2011 draft class.

The team has come to terms with 10th round pick Taylor Lewis, 24th round pick Brian Sharp, 29th round pick Kirk Singer, 30th round pick Matthew Benedict and 31st round pick Derek Trent.

All of these players will report to the State College Spikes, who will begin their season on Friday.

Lewis, a center fielder out of the University of Maine, was rated the fifth best prospect in upper New England. The website Pirates Prospects says that Lewis is a line driver hitter who hits to the gaps and runs a 6.5 60 yard dash.

Sharp and Singer are both middle infielders, and are expected to play shortstop.

Benedict is a right-handed pitcher that expected to pitch out of the bullpen.

Trent, who’s from East Tennessee State University, is a capable of playing both catcher and the outfield.
