Pirates Roster Move

PITTSBURGH (KDKA)- The Pirates made a surprising roster move in hopes of sparking their struggling offense.

Today, the Pirates have optioned infielder Josh Harrison to Triple-A Indianapolis and will recall infielder Chase d'Arnaud (pronounced "dar-NO").

A subsequent move to make room on the 40-man roster for d'Arnaud will also be made on Friday.

I'm questioning why Harrison was demoted instead of Pedro Ciriaco, considering Harrison can play third and second base.

I'm told that d'Arnaud has been playing some third base lately for Indianapolis, so, it's likely he'll platoon with Brandon Wood.

The 24-year-old right-handed hitter was batting .280 with Indianapolis with four HR and 33 RBI.

d'Arnaud Statistics:
*239 at-bats, .280 average, 39 runs, 11 doubles, 5 triples, 4 home runs, 33 RBIs, 17 stolen bases
*d'Arnaud was hitting .358 vs. left-handed pitchers, .241 vs. right-handed pitchers
*d'Arnaud in May: .329, 2 HR, 12 RBI, 8 SB
*d'Arnaud in June: .299, 1 HR, 14 RBI, 7 SB
*d'Arnaud was the Pirates 4th round pick in 2008
